Red Lips

Red Lips are one of those things that many ladies admire and never dare to try. That used to be me... On a night out checking out a chick, giving her the female version to the male "up down" and freezing at her face, envious of those luscious red lips, wishing that I could look as good as her in redstick....well! that's the past! I'm now her (I hope! lol)

A stroll through Limegrove with a few girlfriends saw us inevitably in the M.A.C store. I'm the simple one when it comes to makeup. The other two know their stuff. I shyly whispered to my girl (a budding makeup artist) "I want a nice shade of red..."

I mean I was in MAC... there had to be something in there to suit me right!? And indeed there was! I chose two which the MAC girl tried on me. I immediately loved both but all 3 of them agreed that Ruby Woo Retro Matte Lipstick was the winner.

But of courseee the lady hadn't just put the lipstick on. My lips were first lined with a red lip liner and since the lipstick was matte, Love Alert Dazzleglass was added on top.

Ok, so this moment that I am describing right here, was a realisation of a dream. There I was staring into a mirror looking at THE red lips! and those lips were on my face.

Needless to say, I bought all 3 products AND I didn't wipe it off. I left the store feeling FAB in my new red lips!

I found my prefect shade of red, now I dare you to go find yours :)

When is skinny too skinny?

As I walked the road I felt like a sexy beast... as I sat in my seat in the minibus, I felt like a darned fool. Not again... The perfect black pair of skinny jeans that I had bought in the mall the day before and I was proudly wearing, had suddenly become a little less perfect. They were too tight. You may ask, but didn't you try them before you bought them? Of course I tried them on! I tried them on standing, I spun around in the mirror, checked how my bum looked; I was pleased. But I didn't try sitting. Now I was in the minibus and attempts to bend my knees in the required 90 degree angle were futile. A 160 degree bend was the best I could do.

As I shared my disappointment with my friend who was travelling with me he laughed and said "Once my jeans were so tight that I couldn't get them off in time and I peed myself..." My scandalous laughter burst through the half empty van. I felt a bit better, for a moment. I had been so excited that the size 9 "fit" that I hadn't given any serious consideration to the size 11 that I had also taken into the changing room. Now I was 1 Grantley the poorer (yes i splurged) and the owner of a beautiful pair of jeans that simply weren't meant for me... Lesson of the day? Not everything that fits, is your size.

Too fat for those pants?

The other day I overheard someone say "That girl is too fat to be wearing short pants"

It got me thinking....Who decided that only the skinny girl or the athletic girl could wear short pants?

We seem to know who is pretty and who isnt? But what are our opinions based on?
And when we figure out what our basis is.... is it a worthwhile basis?

Just food for thought.

"The Bikini Body"

"I can't wear a bikini. I don't have a bikini body"

I can't count the number of times that I have heard this statement and it comes from every female body type imaginable.

I'm not going to give an opinion on if a person should wear a bikini or not.
I do want to highlight a few things and suggest what the decision should NOT be based on.

 It should not be based on celebrities.

The body of a celebrity is not typical; it is not always healthy; and is often not even real.
How could an average woman feel that she cant wear a bikini because she does not look like a celebrity; A celebrity who 1. has a strict diet. 2. has the best personal trainer money can buy and 3. has photoshop.

As my eyes opened this morning there was a smile on my face, golden sun floating through my window. A grump would have been upset with the sun that woke them. But not me, I was happy, happy just to be alive. Sooo grateful to be living in Barbados, where natural beauty abounds. 

Beach today? For sure!
