"The Bikini Body"

"I can't wear a bikini. I don't have a bikini body"

I can't count the number of times that I have heard this statement and it comes from every female body type imaginable.

I'm not going to give an opinion on if a person should wear a bikini or not.
I do want to highlight a few things and suggest what the decision should NOT be based on.

It should not be based on celebrities.

The body of a celebrity is not typical; it is not always healthy; and is often not even real.
How could an average woman feel that she cant wear a bikini because she does not look like a celebrity; A celebrity who 1. has a strict diet. 2. has the best personal trainer money can buy and 3. has photoshop.

Britney Spears
Striving to look like this?

Well I have news, SHE doesnt even look like this! She is NOT REAL.

Below shows Britney.
To the left is possibly Britney with the help of all her dietians, trainers, dermatologists etc.
To the right is Britney again, with the help of a photo editing tool.

Furthermore, Britney who knows that Britney is not real, wears a bikini! Go Britney go!

Our "bad"angle

Rihanna

Above is Rihanna and her "2007 Venus Legs of a Goddess" Nice eh? The below picture is also Rihanna. (Is it edited or real?)

Ok so before all the fans come with their pitchforks and torches, please know that this is not an attempt to embarrass anyone, Britney Spears or Rihanna. It's just an attempt to highlight that they are real women just like us. They have the same "problems" just as us. So don't idolise them and wait 'til we become what we think they are before we start to love our bodies.

Live Fab ladies,
ex's and oh's

  1. This is a fantastic post. I've seen all to often that people believe that celebs look like these super human beings with perfect everything. As a photographer, it's our goal to make people look the best they possibly can. When it comes to fashion, we create images, we don't always represent the actual. That's the nature of the business.

  2. A lot of people don't realise the extent to which phtoshop is used for magazines, television and movies. It's rediculous. Photoshop is used sometimes to make a celebrity or model have hips or legs or a waist 2-4 inches smaller than it is in reality, take away facial lines and take out any blemishes or pigmentation that the media editors and so on don't want. It's unrealistic to want to look like someone you see in a magazine that has been covered in makeup from head to toe, then had the help of lighting, reflectors and photoshop to "look good".
